I was first exposed to the UFC early in my high school days .I still remember renting those dinky vhs tapes at ABC video. Mr. Park would always looked the other way when me and my buddy Joe would come up to the counter with bunch of fight tapes. At that time there was still an age restriction disclaimer due to the graphic nature involved in the bouts. It was pure entertainment value then. The brutal knockouts, late stoppages, non existent weight classes and the king of the hill style tournaments. The fact that each competitor represented a different discipline reminded me of a real life “Street Fighter” game or the classic 80’s hit “Blood Sport”. Even though i didn’t quite understand what i was watching (especially when it came to Jiu Jit Su), i was instantly fascinated and from then on i became a fan. It’s unbelievable how the sport has evolved its way into mainstream culture posing a great threat to all the other national past times . In the West and certain parts of Europe and Asia, it’s already established itself as the staple when it comes to any sort of hand to hand combat competitions. With the way MMA is growing internationally, boxing is undoubtedly a dying sport with no real salvation in sight. Being based in China it’s still sort of unconventional being a MMA fan. Even though the sport has blown up in Japan and Korea it hasn’t really penetrated into Chinese mainstream just of yet. When i talk to people about MMA they always almost seem to mix it up with pro wrestling and the likes WWE. To a lot of them there isn’t much of a difference between two full grown men trying to beat the shit out of each other. In a sense there isn’t much of an athestic difference but in substance one is dramatized, whereas the other is well…real drama! But like any other emerging movement in China, education is key. People usually reject what they don’t understand. My goal with the site is to bring a new found appreciation for the art and science of MixedMartial Arts. Once people start to realize the technical, creative and progressive aspects of the sport i’m certain the massess will ensue with its follow.
